DeWALT XR Impact Driver DCF845B got tested

This is why construction workers love DeWALT

Introduction

DeWalt has given us some impressive impact drivers over the past few years, but their XR887 impact driver has remained their flagship three-speed model. Now, DeWalt has a new offering that is sure to surpass the XR887.

Features and Specs

The new DeWalt 20 Volt Max XR quarter inch impact driver is a powerhouse with 1825 inch pounds of torque and three speed modes, making it ideal for a variety of applications. The lightweight, brushless motor and three-speed switch provide increased control and precision, while the onboard LED work light helps to illuminate dimly lit workspaces. This cordless impact driver is also chip ready (chip sold separately) and can be tracked using the Wall Tool Connect site manager application.

Dewalt has Crazy Sales Tactic

DeWalt has not officially launched the XR impact driver yet, but they already have a BOGO deal in place. If you buy a two-pack of their new power stack batteries, you’ll receive one of their bear tools for free, including the new XR 845. This essentially gives you $350 worth of DeWalt tools for $200, or 43% off.

Is it Better than the DCF850 Impact Driver?

It remains to be seen whether the DeWALT XR Impact Driver DCF845B will be better than the DCF850 impact driver, as that can only be determined through an in-person tool test. However, the specs on paper suggest that it will be a powerful and versatile tool for any job site.

Comparing the DeWALT 840 and DCF845B:

The DeWALT 840 and the DCF845B look very similar in appearance, however, there is a significant difference between the two. The 840 only has one speed and does not have a three-speed selector switch like the DCF845B. Despite this, the 840 still delivers 1700 inch-pounds of torque and 3200 RPMs. On the other hand, the DCF845B delivers 1825 inch-pounds of Max torque, 3400 RPMs, and has three speed switches, making it a more feature-rich option.

Comparing the DeWALT XR DCF845B and the Home Depot Exclusive Atomic Compact ECF850:

The Home Depot exclusive Atomic Compact ECF850 is not an XR, but it still delivers 3,800 IPM and 3,250 RPM in speed 3. This tool is only available at Home Depot and not at Lowe’s or other online retailers. It will be interesting to see if DeWalt will come out with a DCF855 that will go alongside the Atomic and be sold only at Home Depot.
